How did we get to November. I know it’s cliché but it seems like this year has flown by. I am so incredibly thankful to be your Pastor. I appreciate the deep love and care you have shown me this year as I dealt with health issues this summer. The prayers and concern you have shared for my family has made us stronger together. These are just two personal things that I am thankful for this year. As I broaden my focus a little further I am grateful for the ministry we have shared together as we have worked to be a beacon of hope on this corner. Food Pantry ministry that has distributed more than 15,000 pounds of food through our partnerships with Montgomery Country Food Bank, Kroger and you! Additionally, we did backpacks at the beginning of the school year before the Food Bank was able to take over sending home food for the weekends so that our students were not hungry when school is closed.
PEZ (Public Education Zoo Crew) who participated in many ways at Porter Elementary throughout the school year. Since August we did the Back to School Bash and Trunk or Treat and are already planning on Pictures with Santa. This coupled with our Children’s Ministry Movie nights inviting families from Porter Elementary to join us for movies during school breaks.
Scouting ministry. We host 2 Scout troops and 1 Cub Scout pack that are very active, not only here at the church but throughout the community. Our scouts have camped in the FLC when weather delayed their departure for a camping trip. They’ve celebrated new Eagle Scouts, watched other scouts advance in rank and develop skills within our buildings.
We are in the midst of the third season of Fun Fair Positive Soccer using our fields for practice during the week and games on Saturday. Our Men’s ministry has gone out cheering on the teams, providing cold water and taking in prayer requests that have been shared with our church.
We have had more than 120 hours of Bible study within the walls of the church. We tried something new for Vacation Bible School. We heard stories of faith and songs that make up who we are in worship. We’ve fixed broken plumbing, repaired AC units, replaced all the lights in the Sanctuary as well as addressing other facility needs. And this is not all.
I hope that you will join me on Wednesday, November 18 for Friendsgiving. This is an opportunity for us to share really good food and share gratitude for all that God has done in and around us this year. You are invited to bring your favorite Thanksgiving side to share. If you don’t usually attend Wednesday night potluck & Bible Study, please consider this your invitation to join us without committing to a weekly practice.

United Women in Faith
While thankfulness is a year-round effort, it seems that November brings it more to mind as we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. One of the ways we try to demonstrate thankfulness for our many blessings is to share with others. As we have done in the past, at this month’s Food Pantry (November 6-7), we will be signing up families to receive food to enable them to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner. Our greatest need for assistance in this is providing the turkeys we include. We will be giving out the food on Saturday, November 21, so if you can help provide a turkey, you can bring it to the church the week beginning Sunday the 8th. (10 to 12 pound turkeys are ideal but we’ll accept any size!) If you are able to store them at home until we are ready to give them out, just let me know so I can keep track of how many turkeys we need to purchase. We’re also happy to accept money donations if you would rather we do the shopping.
The other thing we do at the November Food Pantry is sign up kids for the Carin’ Angel for Christmas gifts. I will have Carin’ Angel up in the sanctuary on Sunday, November 22 so you will have plenty of time to adopt a child and buy the presents while things are on sale. Wrapped gifts with the identifying angel are due back in the sanctuary by Sunday, December 13 so we can give them out on Saturday, December 19. As in the past, we ask that gifts for each child equal about $50.00. Some of you may wish to go together to adopt a child.
November and December are such busy times, not only in the life of the church, but in our own personal lives. I pray that you all are able to find time to “Be still” and let the beauty and true meaning of the season fill you with peace and joy.

Children's Ministry
This past month was full of fun and fellowship! We enjoyed another successful Movie Night, where we gathered to watch The Sandlot. We also held our annual Costume and Pumpkin Carving Contest, and everyone had a blast showing off their creativity and festive spirit!
Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming Family Day at the Park on November 8 at 12:30 PM at Jesse H. Jones Park in Humble!
Bring the whole family and join us for an afternoon of fun, food, and fellowship. We’ll have activities for the kids to enjoy while everyone comes together to share lunch and spend time with one another.
Please remember to bring a sack lunch for your family!
As we look ahead to December, we have two special events planned for December 13!
*Children’s Ministry Program: Our children will be sharing their program during worship. We look forward to celebrating their hard work and enjoying this special time together!
*Cookies and Cocoa with Santa: Join us from 2:00–4:00 PM for a fun-filled afternoon of cookies, cocoa, and holiday cheer with Santa!
We have so much to look forward to, and we hope you and your family will join us for these wonderful opportunities to connect, celebrate, and make memories together. We can't wait to see you there!

Prayer Ministry
We read in Psalm 100:4
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
As we enter the month of November and Thanksgiving approaches, it is a good time to concentrate our prayers on thankfulness. When we go to bed at night, we can thank God for the day and the day’s events. When we wake up in the morning, we can thank God for the day ahead. If we are stuck at a red light or stuck in traffic, we can look around us and thank God for the things we see. Before we know it, we will find the light changing and traffic moving. When we prepare meals, we can be thankful for the food. Just think about all the things God has done for us and give thanks.
The prayer team continues to lift up prayers for our church, our members, and our friends and relatives of members. Please let us know of your prayer requests.
