Consecration Sunday Is Coming
Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes.
Our congregation’s finance committee has selected the Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis this year.
Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. Instead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship. Consecration Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the question, “What percentage of my income is God calling me to give?”
During morning worship on Consecration Sunday, we are asking our attendees and members to make their financial commitments to our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world.
Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily by attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to completing a card. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card.
We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During morning worship our guest leader will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, climaxed by members making their commitments as a confidential act of worship.
We will encourage participation in Consecration Sunday events through the Consecration Sunday team and Board of Stewards members. Since we will make no follow-up visits to ask people to complete their cards, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday worship.

“Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. 29 Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. 30 My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light.”
These two verses have been my constant companion these last few of days. It is too hot to be outside. It’s too hot to cook. It’s too hot for pretty much most things. I was talking to a friend recently whose AC had gone out in their home. After a couple of days they finally got 2 portable AC units so they could lower the temperature in their home from 85. I marveled that they lasted a couple of days and could not imagine what life was like here in Porter before the invention and availability of air conditioning. Whether it is the heat, the state of affairs, high cost of pretty much everything it is easy to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. And it is here where God meets us.
Be gentle with yourself and each other. Drink water. God promises rest for all of us.

United Women in Faith
We had a meeting on Saturday, August 22 with a special guest, Rev. Thea Curry-Fuson, who came to share her story with us.
August 30 was our annual United Women in Faith Sunday. Rachel Norris, a potter, brought the message, demonstrating how a potter works and comparing it to the Christian life and how God shapes us. She also shared with us much of her life story. Her message was both entertaining, instructive and inspiring! After the service we had lunch and a silent auction and craft sale. We raised a little over $1,000 which will be used to buy food for the Thanksgiving baskets we will give out in November. A big thank you to everyone who took part in the service, who donated items for the auction and sale, who helped set up, who brought food, and also to everyone who donated for the food and bought items.
All in all it was a wonderful day!
Our Conference Fall Festival is coming up on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26 in Lakeview. Our theme this year is ‘Unstoppable Together – 3 B’s – Believe, Belong, Become.’ While there we will be dedicating the Feminine Hygiene Kits that were our ‘Hands On Project’ this year.
Prior to that on Wednesday, September 16 we will be going to the Mission Center in Conroe to put together kits to be given out to people in our area who are in need of help.

Children's Ministry
As we welcomed a new school year, we celebrated Promotion Sunday and our Backpack & Teacher Blessing during worship on August 2. It was a meaningful opportunity to pray over our students, teachers, and families as they began a new year of learning, growing, and making memories.
That same afternoon, our Children’s Ministry gathered at Bull Sallas Park for an afternoon of fun and fellowship at the splash pad. The smiles, laughter, and time together made for a wonderful start to our back-to-school celebrations!
We continued the fun with our Back to School Movie Night, where we enjoyed watching Jumanji together. Our Back to School Game Night brought even more excitement as the kids competed and laughed their way through giant checkers, giant Connect Four, Minute-to-Win-It games, Tic-Tac-Throw, and cornhole.
What a joy it has been to kick off the school year together! We are grateful for the opportunity to bless, encourage, and connect with our children and families as we begin another year of growing in faith and community.
As always, please join us for Sunday School at 9am, Children's Church during worship (after we start in the sanctuary at 10am), and Bible Study on Wednesday nights after our 6pm Family Potluck Dinner!
